As part of Severe Weather Awareness Week, the National Weather Service aims to educate the public about the different products they issue to keep the public safe. Meteorologist in Charge of the National Weather Service in Des Moines Jeff Johnson says they primarily focus on the dangers of tornadoes, severe thunderstorms, and flash floods during the spring and summer months. Johnson says it’s important to adhere to all warnings, even if the conditions in a particular warned area don’t reflect severe weather, as conditions can change rapidly. 92.1 KRLS is on the air with live coverage for any severe thunderstorm or tornado warning for any portion of Marion County, with backup generators to ensure the coverage stays on if the power goes out.
