The Well and Thrive Knoxville are joining forces to construct a new temporary park, to be located on the grounds of the Knoxville School District’s administration offices.
“Spring Into Parks” will be held on Sunday, April 28th from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. on the site at 309 West Main Street in Knoxville. Volunteers will be asked to help create Panther Park; they will be asked to install raised flower beds, wheelchair-accessible picnic tables, a fire pit and a restored basketball court.
Thrive Knoxville is getting funding from the Knoxville Wellness Coalition; the object is to give local residents a place to gather for a healthy lunch, enjoy the outdoors and have a little fun during the spring and summer.
Jayson Henry is executive director of The Well, which is scheduled to open its new thrift store and ministry nearby at the old Events Center; he tells KNIA/KRLS News this project is part of their effort to become a strong partner in the community by helping with projects for its benefit.
“We have started this year with coming to Knoxville by partnering with the Thrive organization, and the event Spring Into Parks. So we will help them get that facilitated, get the service projects done,” Henry says.
“We’ll help them provide tools to get the work done; and it’s been just really neat to be part of the community and get involved in that activity.”
Volunteers may sign up for a 2-hour or 4-hour shift; they will be asked to perform tasks such as cleaning up, assembling the park equipment, making small repairs and planting trees.
