neil-drive-218th-avenue-gravel-conversion

At policy and planning following regular business at their meeting this week, the Pella City Council will discuss annexation as it relates to a gravel road conversion project. According to a memo by city staff, the council plans to convert 218th Avenue and Neil Drive from a gravel road to an asphalt surface, however, the current proposal has 24% of the road in the city limits, and in order to proceed, all adjacent properties need to be annexed or the county would have to pay for part of the project. While the city-owned soccer complex could annexed, it can’t be if it’s not connected to part of the city, which would require four property owners covering over seven acres to join the city — but all four have refused to do so. The council will weigh their options on how to proceed in a discussion scheduled after Tuesday’s regular meeting, which starts at 7 p.m. in the Pella Public Safety Complex.
