Although it’s already gotten some unofficial usage, there are still some finishing touches to be put on the new skate park at Youngs Park in Knoxville before its official grand opening.

Parks and Recreation Director Brandon Nemmers tells KNIA/KRLS News once some final work is completed they will be able to formally open the skating area for use.

“We’ve got it roped off right now so the contractor can do some seeding out there; it’s kind of muddy around the bowl and the skate park itself. But we’ve had all kinds of action out there, people skating,” Nemmers says.

“We’ll open those restrooms up April 15th; once we have everything kind of set, we get some established grass and kind of have all the final touches put on, we’ll try to have a little bit of a grand opening.”

Nemmers says the climbing area located nearby has also gotten some use as the weather has warmed up; all park facilities are scheduled to be fully ready, complete with open restrooms, by April 15th.
