An application to change Indianola City Code was approved at the most recent city council meeting, updating the code to allow for a shaved ice shack to open in the Hy-Vee Parking lot. Owners of the new business The Sno Shack owners Ammon and Jessica Taylor made the application to change the code, and tell KNIA News the city was very accommodating.

“Originally the city has a mobile food vendor permit, for food trucks operating in the city. Ours is neither a vehicle or a fixed building, its a mobile shack that is out during the spring and summer. So there was a middle ground we had to work with the city on, technically we are applying for a mobile vendor permit, and the city was great to amend the city code to allow for mobile food units that don’t have a cooking area or an axel, to be able to open more easily here in town.”

The Sno Shack will have a grand opening this Saturday, next the Indianola Hy-Vee gas station in the parking lot, with free shaved ice given out. For more information on the inspiration to get the Sno Shack started, tune in to today’s Let’s Talk Indianola.
