The Indianola School Board passed their official budget for fiscal year 2019/20 at their most recent meeting Monday, officially lowering the tax levy rate to $18.50, down 80 cents. Superintendent Art Sathoff tells KNIA News why the district felt comfortable lowering the levy for this fiscal year.

“We were able to do it this year because we are in good financial shape overall. We’ve met our cash reserve levy limit, done some bond refinancing, and done a variety of things to keep the levy rate as steady as possible. We don’t like and the taxpayers don’t like that levy being unpredictable and having to yo-yo back and forth, so we see it being steady for the next five years or so.”

Sathoff also said the district is growing, and he appreciates the support from the community during the budget process.
