Simpson College held a forum Monday evening, hosted by Vanity Fair author and New York Times bestseller Gabriel Sherman about “How the Rise of Right-Wing Media Led to Trump.” Sherman tells KNIA News the lecture at Simpson College was about partisan differences in reporting compared to being a part of the political machine.

“I see both MSNBC and Fox News as both partisan, but fundamentally different organizations. I think MSNBC is a news channel with a liberal point of view, but under Roger Ailes’ leadership Fox News was a political operation. It didn’t operate as a news network, it worked as a top down hierarchy where Ailes would set the daily message and choose what topics to highlight as a way to advance a Republican political message.”

The lecture was organized by the Simpson College Forum and Humanities Division, along with the John C. Culver Public Policy Center.
