A pair of 5K events will be held today in the area. The Pella Christian community is remembering the life of a long-time counselor at the school. The 12th Annual Gene Van Wyk Memorial Run is at 9am this morning at Pella Christian High School. The race benefits a memorial fund named after Van Wyk, who passed away from stomach cancer in 1998. A new non-profit ministry is supporting special needs orphans in Taiwan and India. Mandy Poulter helped found the group Keaton’s Angel Homes, named after the son her family adopted from Taiwan, and who passed away in February 2016. They are hosting a Family Fun Run 5K on today at 10:30 a.m. at the Fifield Recreation Area at Lake Red Rock. Participants can hear more about how to partner with the ministry, as well as participate in a raffle for prizes from local businesses and a bake sale. No registration is necessary, with free will donations being accepted to support the group.
