The number of active farms in Marion County is slightly higher, but the amount of money taken in is lower.
These are some of the results found in the USDA’s Iowa agriculture census as compiled by the National Agriculture Statistics Service.
There are a total of 1,030 farm operations in Marion County, up by six from the 2012 census; they cover over 255,000 acres, down from 264,000 five years ago. And the amount of cropland harvested was 195,000 acres, down from 199,000.
Net income for county farm operations is over $26 million dollars, down nearly half from $51 million five years ago.
