No injuries were reported from a fire which broke out inside a house in the 600 block of South First Street in Knoxville Sunday night…which was apparently caused by a child playing with fire.

Knoxville firefighters were called to the residence around 8:15 p.m. The fire started in a bedroom dresser.

Knoxville Fire Chief Cal Wyman says the homeowners used a garden hose in an attempt to put out the fire, until firefighters arrive; the dresser itself and a few nearby items were the only things damaged.

Smoke had to be cleared from the home, but no other significant problems were reported.

Chief Wyman says this fire reminds us that it’s always a good time to talk with children about fire prevention.

Knoxville Police and a Marion County Sheriff’s Office fire investigator also assisted at the scene.
