While Pella has a public library providing a wide range of services, this wasn’t always the case. Learn more about the origins of Pella’s libraries at the program, “Library Tales: The Story of Pella’s First Free Public Library” on Tuesday, April 23 at 7pm. The speaker is Russell Buchanan, a graduate student at The University of Iowa’s School of Library and Information Science. He will share his journey to reconstruct a timeline for the Carnegie Viersen Public Library. This was Pella’s library until 2000, when the current Pella Public Library opened in its new building on Main Street. Buchanan has been researching the origins of the library as part of the Carnegie Libraries in Iowa Project. He will use pictures and documents to tell the tale. The program is free and open to the public and will be held in the Pella Library’s Meeting Room.
