More than 250 individuals took part in an event aimed to remember a longtime counselor of Pella Christian High School. It was a perfect Saturday morning to run and walk for the Gene Van Wyk Memorial 5K. The race benefits a memorial fund named after Van Wyk, who passed away from stomach cancer in 1998.
Later Saturday morning, a new non-profit organization held a fun run at the Fifield Recreation Area. Keaton’s Angel Homes is a ministry dedicated to improving the lives of orphans with special needs in Taiwan and India. Mandy Poulter, who founded the group in memory of her adopted son Keaton, says they have plans to grow over the next year with support from the community.
