The Indianola High School musical “Newsies” debuts tonight, continuing tomorrow and Saturday. Newsies is loosely based on the Newsboys strike of 1899, with leading actors including Nick Crain, Majesty Constable, and Doug Voigts among many others. Stage Director Nathanael Smale tells KNIA News this group of students has been a joy to work with all the way since casting auditions.

“This show was so fun to cast, and quite difficult to cast because there was so much talent come and audition. We went through auditions and did call-backs, and we got to see them sing, and dance, and act their hearts out, it was incredible. One of the most fun things we got to do was ask if they had any special tricks or talents to show off and help us know where to put you, and we saw backflips which we were able to add into the show, its just been a lot of fun.”
