The Knoxville Senior Center is on schedule to begin offering its own meal service, taking over for what has been offered through Marion County.

During Tuesday morning’s meeting, the Marion County Board of Supervisors was informed the county is finished reclaiming all the county-owned equipment it needs from the Senior Center kitchen. The remainder is being donated to the Senior Center, to be used to jump-start its own meal service.

The Senior Center in the basement of Knoxville City Hall is scheduled to begin offering a midday meal this coming Wednesday.

This would be available to any seniors living within the Knoxville city limits, replacing the service they had been receiving.

The supervisors were told the Senior Center is scheduled to receive a final inspection this week, as well as its first shipment of food; details such as Medicaid payments and other administrative matters remain to be worked out.
