Recent media reports of the Utah based company Havenpark Capital buying up mobile home parks around the state, has residents of the North American Mobile Home Park in Indianola concerned about the future of their homes. Several recent reports state that Havenpark Capital purchased mobile home parks in West Branch, Waukee, and North Liberty among others, and raised rent from 33% to as much as 70% in some areas. Havenpark Capital bought North American Mobile Home Park in October of 2018, and residents tell KNIA News their rent to date has only been raised by 3%, a normal inflation adjustment, with the lot rent amounting to $440 dollars a month. The Iowa Legislature is currently considering a bill to require landlords keep lot rents the same for six months after purchasing a property, and expanding the required 60-day notice to 180 days for a rent increase among other protections.
