State Auditor Rob Sand finished up a statewide town hall tour in Indianola Sunday evening, discussing with residents on how to make government more efficient. Topics discussed in Indianola ranged from holding government officials accountable, to how to save money in government buildings with energy efficiency. Sand tells KNIA News every bit of savings helps to better serve Iowans.
“Here’s the thing. I’m pretty sure the state of Iowa is going to be around for awhile. The more we are saving, even if its nickels and dimes now, you add that up over decades and that’s a lot of real money. If you look at an example, you look at ideas like the waste collection of Scott County, they are saving $2.5 million over 7 years. The more we can spread those good ideas around, the more money we can save.”
Sand also said the reception to the town hall tour was positive across Iowa, and no matter the political affiliations of constituents, everyone wants to reduce waste and save taxpayer money.
