dutchies

The best in athletic and academic excellence was honored Sunday night at Central College with the fourth annual Dutchies awards, hosted by KRLS’ own Voice of the Dutch, Trevor Castle.

National champion men’s track and field star Will Daniels, American Rivers Conference women’s golf medalist Brittany Coppess, and the 2018 outdoor men’s track and field team each took home multiple wooden shoes.

Daniels was honored as the Male Athlete of the Year and for Record Breaking Performance.  Coppess was picked as Female Athlete of the Year, and her championship clinching putt at the league meet last fall was named Moment of the Year.  The 2018 men’s track and field squad took Team of the Year and Coaching Staff of the Year after their upset victory on home turf at the conference meet.

Also winning awards were wrestler Robert Areyano and cross-country runner Miranda Kruiswky for Male and Female Freshman Athlete of the Year.  Daniels and volleyball player Chapel Carter were honored for having the highest student-athlete GPA’s, and Hannah Reussner, Miguel Pina and Pat Gray were recognized with leadership awards.

Dave and Ardie Sutphen, members of the Central College community in a number of different capacities for over 60 years, were presented with a special Central College Athletics Lifetime of Achievement Award.

On last night’s Central College Radio Coaches Corner, we caught up with Daniels, Coppess and 2018 track coach Joe Dunham.  Hear those interviews below.
