The 2019 Iowa Legislative Session officially adjourned this weekend. One measure passing the House and Senate in a budget amendment strips some of the powers Attorney General Tom Miller has in regards to joining out-of-state lawsuits. Both State Senator Ken Rozenboom and Representative Dustin Hite voted in favor of the bill that passed with only Republican support. Each say the bill is designed to reign in Miller as it relates to what they called “politically-charged” court actions against President Trump, and each say the Attorney General should have checks as it relates to any actions outside of Iowa’s borders. Both denied claims the bill is politically targeted against the long-time Democratic Attorney General, while opponents say this is aimed to limit his power despite being re-elected by voters again in November.
