An American Rivers championship has vaulted the Central College softball team back into the NFCA Division III Top 25 coaches poll. The Dutch, who captured the league crown with a doubleheader sweep of then-No. 13 Luther College Sunday, return at No. 22 with a 24-8 mark. It’s their first appearance since March 13. Central plays host to the six-team American Rivers tournament Friday and Saturday at the A.N. Kuyper Athletics Complex field in Pella. The Dutch carry the top seed in the single-elimination tourney and receive a first-round bye. They’ll play Saturday at 11 a.m. against the winner of a Friday contest between Luther and the University of Dubuque, a game that can be heard live on KRLS. The tournament winner receives the league’s automatic berth in the NCAA Division III tournament. The 62-team field will be announced Monday at noon, with regional play set for May 10-11.
