More than 2,000 participants took part in the return of the Klompen Classic Wednesday evening. The kids classic started the event at 6 p.m., with children racing up Franklin Street, which led up to the main race at 7 p.m.

Justin Garrard of Liberty, Missouri, was the overall winner, completing the 5K in 15:32.1. He says he came to Pella this week because he hasn’t been to Tulip Time before, but this is a return visit to the community. Zoey Eighmy, who was the fastest female entrant, is a 5th grade student at Jefferson Intermediate School.

Proceeds from the event benefit Crossroads of Pella, an organization dedicated to helping those in need throughout the year.
