The City of Knoxville will be replacing a number of old yield signs with stop signs, thanks to a grant from the state.
Police Chief Dan Losada says Knoxville received a $5,000 grant from the Iowa Department of Transportation, enabling the city to buy 60 new stop signs and poles.
He tells KNIA/KRLS News they’ll be replacing yield signs which aren’t always obeyed:
“We chose to replace the yield signs in the south part of town with stop signs that better control the public. We get a lot of complaints about people running yield signs; now, there’s no doubt that you’re supposed to stop there,” Chief Losada says.
The city will be eligible to apply for this same grant again after July 1st; Chief Losada says if they qualify for it a second time, they will be able to replace more signs around town.
