Knoxville fire personnel say burning yard waste touched off a fire in the backyard of a home Sunday evening, which set a shed on fire and caused about $19,000 in damage.

The fire in the 600 block of South 1st Street was reported around 6:45 p.m. Knoxville firefighters arrived and discovered the shed was fully involved; the fire extended to a neighbor’s garage and a large tree in the yard.

Black smoke was seen billowing up from several blocks away, so the Knoxville Township Fire Department was put on standby; Knoxville Fire personnel were on the scene for about two hours doing overhaul.

The shed was deemed a total loss, and damage is estimated at $6,500; another $4,500 in damage was done to a fence, and minor damage to the neighbor’s garage was estimated at $8,000.
