Pella High School seniors were recognized through scholarships at the annual awards night Wednesday. It’s the first of two held by Dollars for Scholars and local organizations, awarding students with scholarships and grants for their upcoming post-secondary education experiences.

Seniors who achieved over 100 hours of community service were given Distinguished Service Awards at the event as well, with 63 members of the class of 2019 serving more than 7100 hours. Pella High Students have logged over 27,000 hours of volunteering since the program was started.

“I can tell you with complete confidence, that the activities that make Pella a special place wouldn’t be possible without volunteers,” Mayor Jim Mueller said at the event.

The Pella Chapter of Dollars for Scholars is giving 170 scholarships totaling more than $115,000 to both Pella and Pella Christian seniors in 2019.

Since 2000, Dollars for Scholars in Pella has given more than $1.4 million in 3,500 scholarships to graduating seniors in the community, with several local donors contributing. Every local student who successfully completes the application receive a financial aid award through the program.

Pella Christian High School will have their senior awards night on Wednesday, May 15th.
