An eight game winning streak to close the regular season came to a screeching halt Friday afternoon as the top-seeded Central College softball team was buzzed 10-1 by Lake Forest in the opening round of the NCAA Pella Regional as heard live on 92.1 KRLS.
The fourth-seeded Foresters scored three runs in the top of the first inning to take control, and after a pair of Dutch threats yielded just one run in the middle innings, Lake Forest put up two more crooked numbers late to end the game in six innings.
Central Coach George Wares said afterwards that his team played poorly all the way around.
“We made a good pitcher look great and we made some good hitters look great. I feel for our players. It’s not about losing, because losing is going to happen, but today I felt like we really lost and we never gave ourselves a chance to win from the very beginning. We let them get really comfortable, and to their credit they rolled with that.”
Central falls into the loser’s bracket, and will come back today against Saint Benedict in an elimination game at 1:30. With a win, Central will play the loser of this morning’s Lake Forest / UW-Lacross game late this afternoon. You can hear all of the Central action on 92.1 KRLS.
