The high school track and field state qualifying rounds were Friday afternoon, with the boys and girls squads heading to Johnston. The Indianola girls qualified a plethora of events to compete at the Drake Blue Oval next week, with Lauren Blake qualifying in the high jump, the sprint medley team of Leah Blake, Grace Gioffredi, Aryss Forbes, and Bailey Blake with alternates Rayna Sickels and Jadyn Forbes, Gioffredi in the 100m, Bailey Blake in the 400m, Rayna Sickels in the 100m hurdles, Joey Werling in the 400m hurdles, the shuttle hurdle relay team of Anna Young, Avery Howe, Ellie McCombs, and Rayna Sickels with alternates Kira Mathias and Joey Werling, the 4x200m relay team of Patricia Steinfeldt, Grace Gioffredi, Aryss Forbes, and Leah Blake, with alternates Lizzie McGraw and Avery Howe, the 4x400m relay team of Haylee Heuton, Jadyn Forbes, and Lauren and Bailey Blake with alternates Joey Werling and Leah Blake, and the 4x800m relay team of Alyvia Fuller, Joey Werling, Hailey Seifrig, and Rachel Engelhart with alternates Jadyn Forbes and Ali Borgmeyer, the distance medley team of Aryss Forbes, Leah Blake, Lauren Blake, and Jadyn Forbes with alternates Grace Gioffredi and Bailey Blake. Kassie Baker qualified in the discus, and Alivia Bauer dominating in the throws earning first place in the discus and shot put, and Macie Mays in the shot put.
On the boys side, Eric Baldus qualified in the 3200m along with the 4×100 team of Tryce Kirgan, Carter Erickson, Grant Hixson and Kolbary Kolarik with alternates Blake Kennedy, and Sean Cunningham. The boys also qualified the 4×400 relay team of Wyatt Woordruff, Joseph DeWall, Andreas Miller, and Logan Grover with alternates Sean Cunningham and Carter Erickson. Max Cleveland and Matt McKnight qualified in the high jump, Dayton Mays in the discus, the shuttle hurdle relay team of Carter Erickson, Max Cleveland, Grant Hixon, and Blake Kennedy, with alternates Ty Jensen and Mark Pepper, and the sprint medley team of Kolby Kolarik, Tryce Kirgan, Carter Erickson, and Wyatt Woodruff with alternates Logran Grover and Grant Hixson.
The Indianola boys tennis team saw their season come to an end at Johnston this morning, finishing in 4th place by just one points. Bradyn Upchurch was the Indians top finisher of the day, earning a 4th place finish. Waukee won the match, with Johnston placing 2nd, and Ankeny 3rd.
The Indianola girls soccer team fell to Perry on their home pitch 4-1. The Indians had a lead going into the halftime break 1-0 on a Megan Howard goal, but the Blue Jays scored four second half goals to take the victory. The Indians fall to 4-8 on the season, and will next play Gilbert on Monday.
