Knoxville High School’s production of “Little Shop of Horrors” has received honors from this year’s Iowa High School Musical Theater Awards.

The show presented this past March has received a Production Award for Distinguished Scene, for the “Mushnick and Son” scene. Asa Leonard played the role of Mr. Mushnick, and he has received a Student Award for Outstanding Performance in a Principal Role.

Cast members receiving Special Recognition for Performance in a Principal Role are Taryn Johnson as Audrey, and Ethan Rowland as the Voice of Audrey II.

Heidi Feldman directed the show, and says each of the nominees gave an especially strong performance; she also tells KNIA/KRLS News it took a joint effort by all the students involved to make the overall production work.

“Everybody had a hand in making the production spectacular, and we just appreciate everybody in the school district supporting us and everybody supporting us and making the production what it was. I still get stopped every single day, two months later, how everybody enjoyed the show and they’re looking forward to what we do next year,” Feldman says.

The Iowa High School Musical Theater Awards Showcase will be presented at the Des Moines Civic Center on Monday, June 3rd at 7:00 p.m.
