Several students from Knoxville will be going to a pair of Rotary leadership events this summer; and while the club is sponsoring their trip, the selections were made by their peers.
The recipients and alternates for this year’s Rotary Youth Leadership Awards and Young Rotary Youth Leadership Awards were presented during the club’s weekly meeting on Wednesday.
The RYLA Conference will be held from July 14th through the 19th at Grinnell College; this week-long event is for high school students looking to sharpen their leadership skills, as well as their citizenship and personal development.
The following week, three students from the ranks of Knoxville Junior High School will be attending the Young RYLA Camp, at Grinnell College; they will also be using the week to develop their own skills and character.
Committees consisting of recent RYLA and Young RYLA participants recruited and recommended the students.
Meanwhile, fourteen students have received scholarships from the Rotary Club; nine students from Knoxville HIgh School and one from Pleasantville High School received the Rotary Scholarship, two more were presented with the Rotary Healthcare Scholarship, and two others won the Lela Harp Scholarship.
