Registration is still open for the second annual Run for the Dogs 5K, a fundraiser for Marion County Humane Society on Saturday, June 1st.
This race is not only a benefit for the dogs and other pets at the society’s shelter in Knoxville, but is open to dogs as well; runners are each allowed to bring one dog with them on the course, either one of their own or an adoptable dog available at the shelter.
Leslie Vanderlinden is President of Marion County Humane Society; she tells KNIA/KRLS News they are looking forward to hosting this second run, since things last year ran so smoothly.
“They went pretty well for being a first-time event; I know we have a lot more people registered this year, so we’re pretty excited to see how the turnout is,” Vanderlinden says.
The run will cover a loop course from their location off of Pleasant Street, westward to the dog park and Auld Park and then back again. The race begins at 8:30 a.m.; registrations will be accepted online or on the day of the race beginning at 8:00 a.m.
