A man from Eddyville is facing charges, after a high-speed chase which began following an attempted traffic stop.
42-year-old Jay Mitchell faces counts of eluding at a speed of over 25 miles per hour above the limit, as well as operating a vehicle without the owner’s consent.
Mitchell is charged with refusing to pull over for a Marion County sheriff’s deputy around 9:00 p.m. Friday night along 228th Avenue in rural Marion County; he led law enforcement on a 21-minute chase which finally ended in Mahaska County.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office says Mitchell drove at top speeds of up to 85 miles per hour, and committed multiple traffic violations along the way.
Deputies also say he did not have the owner’s permission to operate the vehicle while on a suspended license.
Both counts are aggravated misdemeanors; Mitchell is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on May 28th.
