Even though the end of the school year is in sight, the Knoxville School District’s nurse says now is the time to start making appointments and preparing the necessary health paperwork for students returning to school in the fall.
Angie Mitchell says even though the necessary forms aren’t due until the start of school, the summer will go all too fast; she tells KNIA/KRLS News parents should beat the rush, and start getting everything ready now.
“(A) lot of times that we wait until August and then we’re surprised we can’t get in with our providers. So that would be my challenge, is get those appointments made and on the calendar so your student has an opportunity to have all those appointments before the rush…and we’re back at school before you know it,” Mitchell says.
Every student is required to have a general health history form, as well as proof of vaccination or exemption from vaccination. Those in need of daily medication or emergency medication will also have to fill out the necessary forms; Mitchell says the district is available to address any other medical needs a student may have.
