What has already been a soggy stretch of weather may get wetter over the next several days. According to the National Weather Service, chances for thunderstorms and heavy rainfall begin late tonight and continue through much of the Memorial Day weekend. At the KNIA/KRLS studios in Pella, 4.55” of rain has fallen since the beginning of the month, and .95 this week, while in Knoxville, 4.3” of precipitation has been recorded in May. Several other area rain gauges have seen between 2-5” of rain since May 16th. While widespread flooding is not expected, local rivers and streams may top their banks and flash flooding remains a threat. The potential for severe weather also exists, with a slight risk of strong storms in place Friday, Saturday, and Monday, with large hail and damaging wind the primary threats.
