Several changes have been happening with driver’s license issuance in the city of Pella, and the Marion County Treasurer believes they are for the better. Michaela Bigaouette says her office has been offering services in Pella on the first and third Wednesdays of the month since March after several years on Fridays. She says that has led to a significant uptick in the number of residents they serve.

“One thing that has happened that I really did not foresee is the volume of driver’s licenses in Pella has gone up drastically,” she says. “We would typically process between 40 and 45 driver’s licenses a day when we were there on Fridays, and we have done between 65 and 70 driver’s licenses per day since we’ve moved to Wednesdays.”

Bigaouette is announcing their next big change: staff will be shifting over to the Pella Community Center from their current location in the Pella Memorial Building on July 1st. Hours will remain in place on the first and third Wednesdays of the month in Room 200, but she’s hopeful the move will allow for an expansion of services in the near future.

“The big difference is that our equipment will remain set up in Pella 24/7,” she says. “At this time, we will still be going there the first and third Wednesdays of every month, but my hope is that in the future this will allow us to expand those services.”
