With the end of school in sight, parents will be looking for activities to keep their children occupied during the summer months; and the Knoxville Rec Center has some available for their use.

Brandon Nemmers is Knoxville’s Parks and Recreation Department supervisor; he tells KNIA/KRLS News there’s plenty to do at the Rec Center and the city’s parks.

“We’ll try to keep them busy as school gets out; we’re going to start our open swims from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. seven days a week, we’ll be starting that on Monday, June 3rd, so that’s right around the corner. We’ve got swim team coming up; that’s for six-year-olds through eighteen-year-olds. We have swim lessons for all ages, that’s private and group, running all summer long.

“We have a Blastball program, which is a spinoff of teeball, which is three- to five-year-olds. That program will begin in June, with the registration deadline here at the end of May,” Nemmers says.

And if these offerings and times aren’t suitable, Nemmers says all park facilities are available for use at any time during the summer.
