Summertime breakfast and lunch service for youths in the Knoxville School District will be getting underway as soon as school ends for the year.

Lunch will be served from Monday through Thursday at Knoxville High School from 11:15 a.m. until noon from June 3rd through August 8th; there will be no meal service on July 4th.

Breakfast will also be available at certain times of the summer; it will be served at the high school from June 3rd through June 27th from 8:30 to 8:45 a.m. and then at West Elementary from July 22nd through August 8th, from 8:15 to 8:30 a.m.

Angie Mitchell is the nurse for the Knoxville School District; she tells KNIA/KRLS News these meals are available for any children living in the district, at no charge.

“The lunches are open and breakfasts are open to any youth in the area, generally ages 18 and under; we are also happy to serve any adults that come with those students,” Mitchell says.

“There are some opportunities to volunteer; if anybody would like to help serve, we’re looking for adult volunteers and high school youth who would like to volunteer to just set up and clean up and welcome people and greet them.”

The breakfast sessions at West Elementary will run in conjunction with their summer school program; and at Knoxville High School, the Monday lunch service will be followed by the opening of the Panther Food Pantry on the first and third Mondays of the month.
