An open house at the Veterans Administration clinic in Knoxville next month is intended to show veterans and the general public a number of new treatment options which are now available.

The Community Based Outpatient Center at 1607 North Lincoln Street will welcome the public for the open house on Friday, June 14th from 8:00 a.m. until 12 noon.

Maureen Nichols from the VA tells KNIA/KRLS News they not only have additional medical services available on site, but their mobile TeleHealth video link which can connect a medical professional with a patient located just about anywhere.

“Audiology; it used to be that our veterans had to go to Des Moines for hearing aid testing. And now we are trialing and it is going well that we are doing the hearing aid test here through TeleHealth,” Nichols says.

“We can do all of our oncology and even wound care…through TeleHealth; but we also have a podiatrist here, and a dermatologist here, an eye clinic here. And we are currently just bringing on staff for home-based primary care.

Nichols says not only will some of this information be new to the public, but many veterans are unaware of the health options available to them…either through the VA, or by way of a private health provider.
