Teachers are being given the opportunity to take part in a workshop session with the Marion County Development Commission, which is designed to show them the large number of potential careers they can tell their students about.
“Teaching for the Workforce” is being offered with assistance from DMACC Business Resources and Opportunity 2 (squared) from June 24th through the 27th.
This four-day session will involve factory tours and roundtable discussions in Knoxville and Pella, going over the many STEM-related fields which are available to students as they plan their careers.
Carla Eysink is Executive Director for the development commission; she tells KNIA/KRLS News while Marion County’s industries are looking for employees, there’s a wider scope of jobs available beyond front-line factory work.
“And they not only get to see the people working on the line but all the other people that area working in IT and logistics and many other areas within a company; so that they understand the breadth of types of positions that are needed,” Eysink says.
“So it’s not just people on the line, but you need people to design the products, you need people to…work in the logistics of where the products are getting sold to, you need people who work in accounting.”
Teachers taking part will receive two credits towards recertification; the cost for the four-day session is $125, and the deadline to register is June 7th.
