With a forecasted crest of 775 feet above sea level, Lake Red Rock will have reached a point that’s only been seen in seven previous years of the 50 in existence of the reservoir. Assistant Operations Manager Perry Thostenson says this year’s flood event is setting up in a similar manner to 2010. The lake will discharge 50,000 cubic feet per second–20,000 feet higher than normal rates during high water, starting today in an effort to preserve upstream flood storage in case of another major rain event. Thostenson says while this is a major flooding event, this does not compare to the record set in 1993. The lake is forecast to crest this weekend, and steadily decline over the next week. Howell Station and Ivan’s Campground remain closed as a precaution until further notice.
