Eight Pella Christian students received a Seal of Biliteracy at the end of the school year. At the end of the 2018 legislative session, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds signed SF475 into law, which established the Iowa State Seal of Biliteracy. It is awarded by Iowa districts to recognize students who have attained proficiency in two or more languages, one of which is English, by high school graduation. The students in the Pella Christian High School Spanish IV class earning the Seal of Biliteracy are Abby Ambroson, Lawson Bruxvoort, Kyle Fynaardt, Zara Pippel, Parker Schnell, Bethany Spencer, Emma Stravers, and Ivy Terpstra. In order to qualify for this honor, students may show English proficiency on the Iowa Assessments, ACT, or ELDA assessments. Students must also take a proficiency assessment in their 2nd language that tests reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills.
