Two goals in the first twenty-five minutes of play paved the way for a Knoxville Panthers defeat at the Boys Class 2A state soccer tournament.
Knoxville wound up losing its quarterfinal match to top-ranked Cedar Rapids Xavier by a score of 5-0.
The Panthers also gave up a score on a penalty kick early in the second half and another two in the last twenty minutes of play.
It was Knoxville’s second-ever appearance in the state tournament, and first since 2010; they finish the season at 14-5.
