
The Indianola softball team went 2-1 at a tournament hosted by WDM Valley Saturday, taking down Pleasant Valley 10-5, falling to the hosts 4-3, and taking down Boone 9-4.
Against defending state champion Pleasant Valley, who defeated the Indians in the class 5A championship game last summer, the Indians scored early and often. Indianola scored in each of the first six innings, getting an 8-0 lead before the Spartans got on the board in the 6th. Destiny Lewis and Brooke Tucker each got three hits and a pair of RBI in the contest, while Selia Becker drove in three. Kate Kralik got the win in the pitching circle.
Against the host Tigers, The Indians fell behind 2-0 before striking for a run, and went into the sixth inning down 3-1. Indianola scored a run in each of the sixth and seventh to send the game to extra innings, before Valley got the walk-off hit. Alley May got three hits, while Sammie Becker picked up a pair of hits and RBI each. Kralik took the tough luck loss in the pitching circle.
The Indians closed the day against the Toreadors of Boone, where the Indians got a 3-2 in the top of the fourth, when the Toreadors scored a pair of runs to take a 4-3 lead. The Indians offense exploded late, putting up six runs in the sixth for the Indians to pick up the win. Brooke Tucker earned the victory in the pitching circle. The 2-1 day at the tournament puts the Indians at 6-2, and they will next play Monday against Pella.
