Governor Kim Reynolds’ disaster declaration means residents of Marion County and the other affected counties can put in for assistance from the state to help with their recovery.

The Governor’s declaration covers ten counties in the region, including Marion County; all have been hard-hit by heavy rain and other severe weather over the last two weeks, which has left some homeowners with damage.

Some residents may be eligible for the Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program; households within 200 percent of the federal poverty level, or a maximum income level near $42,000 for a family of three, can apply for grants of up to $5,000.

These funds can be used for home or car repairs, replacement of clothing or food, and temporary housing expenses. Applicants have 45 days from May 17th to submit a claim.

For those with long-term needs, Disaster Case Management is available; anyone facing injury, adverse condition or disaster-related hardship can apply. Case managers work with clients on a disaster recovery plan; there are no income restrictions, and they can apply within six months.
