Indianola performers of the spring musical Newsies will be honored at the Iowa High School Musical Theater Awards Showcase today at the Des Moines Civic Center. The IHS performance of Newsies was honored for Outstanding Overall Performance, one of just four schools in the state to receive that honor. Newsies also won Outstanding Ensemble and Outstanding Student Orchestra for the entire cast. Stage Manager Rachel Hudson was honored for Outstanding Achievement in a Technical, Creative or Business Role, Doug Voigts was won Special Recognition for Performance in a Principal Role, choreographers Nick Crain and Terrill Hagener, as well as Codey Gillespie for properties, all won Special Recognition for a Technical, Creative or Business Role. Majesty Constable was also awarded for Outstanding Performance in a Principal Role, and invited into the Triple Threat Program. Constable tells KNIA News the entire cast and crew was amazing throughout the process, and it showed with how many were given awards.
