The fish weren’t biting, but the kids had fun anyway; this was the end result of the Kids Fishing Day at Marion County Park on Saturday, sponsored by the Knoxville Police Department.

Marion County Conservation, the Department of Natural Resources, local businesses and other organizations came together to host the day’s events; children, including some who had never been fishing before, were given the opportunity to cast their line and try to reel in big ones with the help of some friendly police officers.

Jamie Robinson from the Knoxville Police tells KNIA/KRLS News the kids seemed to enjoy the event, even though fish were hard to come by.

“They weren’t biting very well; with all the rain, the water’s pretty muddy…we caught some fish, but not very many,” Robinson says.

About 50 kids turned up for the fishing event; poles and equipment were provided for those who needed them, and dozens of prizes were given away afterwards.
