The Pella Christian High School Theatre Troupe earned several honors from the Iowa High School Musical Theater Awards, and tonight, they’ll receive recognition for their efforts. The fall production of Oklahoma! won an Outstanding Overall Technical and Creative Achievement Award–the highest possible for technical achievement, which will allow the school to be recognized with production photos in a video highlight to be shown at the evening’s ceremony in Des Moines. Other honors from the production include Outstanding Performance in a Leading Role: Tyler Egesdal (as Will Parker) and Jocelyn Gritters (as Laurey); two awards for Special Recognition for a Performance in a Principal Role: Halie Vermillion (as Ado Annie) and Peter Larson (as Jud Fry); and an award for Special Recognition for Cast Ensemble given for the show’s tap dancing. In addition, Egesdal and Gritters were also nominated to audition as Iowa representatives for Nationals in New York City. Egesdal says tonight’s ceremony is a special way to end his time with Pella Christian theater. Area students will be honored tonight at 7 p.m. in the Des Moines Performing Arts Civic Center.
