Both Tulip City soccer teams are a win away from a state tournament appearance. No. 6 in 2A Pella will host conference rival No. 9 ranked Norwalk, with the program’s 13th ever tournament appearance on the line. Pella defeated Norwalk 3-1 in a very close contest during the regular season. Pella Christian is seeking a state tournament bid against perennial power Nevada, who is ranked 7th in Class 1A. It’s shaping up to be a game favoring defense — Nevada has only allowed 19 goals in their 17 matches, while the Eagles have only had 22 scored on them in 18 games. The Eagles hit the road for the chance to go to state — both teams will begin competition at 6 p.m. this evening.
