Two Knoxville-area veterans were among those who made the trip to Washington, DC in May as part of an Honor Flight.

Conrad Nelson and Dean Shinn were chosen to join the group of 240 vets to be honored for their service; they like most of the participants were veterans from the Vietnam era, although there were some from Korea and World War II.

The honorees gathered the night before at the Hy-Vee Center in Des Moines for a dinner, then flew out on two planes the following morning. Stops along the way included the World War II monument, Arlington National Cemetery, the Iwo Jima, Korea and Lincoln Memorials and the new Air Force monument near the Pentagon.

This was the 14th such flight from our area in the ten years they have been organized.
