Another incredible spring season of athletics came to a close at Pella High School as the girls soccer team lost in overtime to Dallas Center-Grimes Thursday 1-nil, in a game heard live on 92.1 KRLS. The Lady Dutch, with their 13th ever state appearance, closed a spring calendar that saw the following:
-Boys tennis team – state runners up in a head-to-head with Xavier that came down to the final set possible, individuals Jack Edwards and Jordan Roozeboom placed 3rd and 8th individually
-Boys golf finished 6th as a team in a rain-shortened team tournament, with John Oltman placing 8th among individual golfers
-Nick DeJong winning an individual state title in the shot put and second place medal in the discus, with the 4×800 meter relay placing 2nd and shuttle hurdle group 3rd as part of Pella’s 6th place team finish at the state track and field meet.
-The Lady Dutch track and field team earning two 2nd place finishes in the 4×100 and 4×200 meter relay, as well as a 3rd place finish in the 4×400 to finish the event tied for 5th.
-Girls tennis player Brooke Jorgensen placed 6th in the state girls singles and doubles tournament, ending her career as a four-time individual qualifier.
-Girls golfer Halie Veenstra qualified as an individual in the state meet, placing 27th in the field of more than 70 participants
-Boys soccer finished in the top 16 in Class 2A soccer, falling to Knoxville in Penalty Kicks for the chance to go to state.
