At their most recent meeting, the Indianola School Board approved a rise in cost for school lunches, starting in the 2019/20 school year. Superintendent Art Sathoff tells KNIA News a school lunch will now cost $3, and breakfast will cost $2, and the decision to raise the cost was not necessarily in the board’s hands.

“That is determined by formula. The hot lunch program is a federal program with a calculation that determines how much is charged for meals. There was a 15 cent jump for next year, which is a larger increase than we typically have had. At the end of the year, that enterprise account for food service has to support itself; it has to be solvent, so not much choice with that.”

Sathoff also said with the increase this year, the board plans on no further increases for the 2020/21 school year.
