Officer Darrel Brown with the Knoxville Police Department has been recognized as National Law Enforcement Officer of the Year by the VFW. Officer Brown received the honor during the VFW’s 98th Annual Iowa State Convention in Des Moines, and was presented with the award by VFW Department of Iowa Commander, Carol Whitmore. Officer Brown, who previously served in the National Guard, tells KNIA/KRLS News his favorite part about being a Knoxville Police Officer is being able to help people in a variety of situations, from being in a car accident to just helping them get back in their homes if they lock themselves out. Officer Brown is planning on retiring from the department this November after 28 years of service.
