Presidential Candidate Beto O’Rourke made a stop in Knoxville Friday. O’Rourke, who is running for the Democratic Party nomination for the 2020 Presidential Election hosted a town hall meeting at Peace Tree Brewing. Prior to the town hall meeting, O’Rourke took a walking tour of Coyote Run Farm near Lacona to discuss the impact of President Donald Trump’s tariffs and trade policy as well as how farmers can help with climate change.

“If you took two cents per meal, generated about $7 Billion dollars and invest it in the environmental services that farmers want to be able to provide, but need to be allowed to make a profit doing. Keeping land in conservation, planting cover crops, greater crop rotation, sustainable grazing practices or generative grazing practices on their fields and on their lands. Not only will that be for those farmers and ensure their viability and by extension rural America, but it also provides a much needed environmental service for this planet.”

O’Rourke was joined by his wife Amy as they were making their first joint trip to Iowa, but it was O’Rourke’s 5th since declaring his candidacy.
